The Integrated Preschool Programme provides services for up to ten children with varying degrees of intellectual disability between the ages of two and five years.

The Programme facilitates the children's integration into mainstream preschools in their own locality, assisted by a Stewarts Hospital staff who support both the child, their parents and the staff in the preschool. A Senior Team Member, who is also a nurse, liases with both the multidisciplinary team in Stewarts about the child's progress and needs, and also the teachers in the schools, in offering support and advice. At present children are attending preschools in Clondalkin, Lucan, Palmerstown and Ballyfermot.

If the Programme available in the local preschool does not suit the child's needs, they can return to the Special Preschool in Stewarts in consultation with their parents and clinicians.
