Community Services
Stewarts established its first community house in 1972, the aim being to integrate client in a home like environment in family sized groups and to afford them the opportunities to improve their quality of life.
Presently our Community based houses has grown to 26 houses while still retaining 5 houses on the campus of the main Hospital.
About Us
The community houses spread from West Dublin to North Kildare, and we have a Respite house in North Dublin. These housed accommodate 93 clients, while the on campus houses accommodate 30 clients with varying degrees of learning disabilities across the life span.
Each client has a work or social placement either in day activities, sheltered work or supported employment, which they attend Monday to Friday each week.
Staffing
Each house is staffed according to the clients needs, requiring a varied and creative roster, ranging from Day shifts Night shifts or sleepover. The staff provides support and assistance, by encouraging personal choice, helping clients achieve personal goals supporting them in developing their self help and life skills. Client are encouraged to participate in the day to day running of their home including shopping, meal preparation, laundry, cleaning and maintaining the garden. They involve themselves in local clubs and recreational activities with the Arch Clubs and Special Olympics activities.
Families and visitors
Families and friends are encouraged to be involved in the clients life through the client care plans, and to encourage the client to visit home for week-ends and holiday breaks Client can enjoy other holiday breaks to either Stewarts Holiday home in Kinvara or to a hotel for a week-end break, throughout the year.
Aims
We aim to deliver a high standard of care to all our clients, using best practice to achieve a forward looking service and by involving the multi disciplinary team provide all the services necessary to achieve this goal. We provide a holistic approach thought medical, clinical, religious and pastoral support.
