Adapted Physical Activity (APA) Centre

Located in Stewarts Sports Centre, the adapted Physical Activity Centre provides a state of the art inclusive fitness facility for our services users. Service users are provided with individualised and group fitness and exercise programmes allowing them to gain maximum health related benefits. All programmes are designed to improve the health and well being of service users. Education programmes on healthy lifestyles, including physical activity participation and healthy eating, are also provided.
The Adapted Physical Activity Centre is a joint initiave between Stewarts Hospital and Dublin City University, School of Health and Human Performance. Students from DCU attend the Centre to gain practical experience of working with people with a disability in a physical activity setting as well as carry out research in the area. The Centre is unique and innovative in Ireland; it is the first Centre to be specifically developed for people with an intellectual disability in collaboration with an academic institution to inform best practice and research.
The facilities at the Adapted Physical Activity Centre are fully accessible to all and are open to the public at certain times during the day. This programme has been supported has been supported by Government under the Dormant Accounts Fund.
